We’re back for another round of Beautiful People! If you don’t know what that is, Beautiful People is a linkup hosted by Paper Fury and Further Up and Further In. Each month, they make a list of questions for you to ask your characters. I’ve done a few in the past, so go ahead and check them out below! For more information about the linkup, click here.

This month, I’m writing about a character from a collaborative story I did with a group in high school during my senior year. The character’s name is Eden Hunter, she’s 26, and she’s a Sergeant in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), also known as the Mounties.

Since the world Eden’s from has a bit of a complicated background, I’ll explain it briefly. In Eden’s world, werewolves exist, but they only transform using a drug called Wolfsboon. Controlling the manufacturing and distribution of this illegal drug is a family called the Graysons, based in Anchorage, Alaska. Eden’s mother, Helen Grayson, was a part of the gang for her entire life until she escaped with Eden and fled to Vancouver, Canada. Since then, Eden grew up in Canada with her mom.

That’s all the background I think you need, so on to the questions!

What’s their favorite book/movie/play/etc.?

Eden isn’t much of a reader, but she did enjoy Anne of Green Gables as a young girl. It’s nostalgic for her, so I’d say it’s her favorite.

Is there anything they regret doing?

I don’t think it’s so much that there’s anything she regrets doing, more like something she regrets not doing. Eden’s mother died very suddenly, and though the two were very close and had a strong relationship, there are still times when Eden wishes she’d spent more time with her mom.

If they were sick or wounded, who would take care of them and how?

Since both of Eden’s parents have since passed on, she’s been all but officially adopted by the Larkin family, close friends of hers ever since she moved to Vancouver. Though Eden lives on her own now and mostly takes care of herself, if she ever needed serious help, she’d go to them. Danny has been her best friend since childhood and his mother, Florence, is like a second mom to Eden.

Is there an object they can’t bear to part with and why?

There are a few things that belonged to her mother that Eden’s pretty attached to, like scrapbooks and whatnot. There’s also a knit scarf that her mother made for her father when they first met, and it’s the only part of her father that Eden has left, so that’s very important to her as well.

What are 5 ways to win their heart (or friendship)?

  • Giving her pretzels or Coke (but only the kind with real sugar)
  • Playing video games or card games with her
  • Just talking to her – Eden prefers to avoid small talk, but she loves conversing with people
  • Being respectful of other people
  • Warm sweaters and hot cocoa

Describe a typical outfit for them from top to bottom.

When she’s not in uniform, Eden’s usually seen wearing a warm, cozy sweater or a t-shirt with a hoodie. She’s almost always wearing jeans and boots. Eden does not have any piercings, so no earrings for her, and she doesn’t typically wear much jewelry in the first place. Her hair is usually in a high ponytail.

What’s their favorite type of weather?

Eden was born in Alaska and raised in Canada, so she’s used to chillier weather. She loves snowstorms (and drinking tea during snowstorms).

What’s the worst fight they’ve ever been in?

Oh, there are plenty. Being law enforcement, she’s had to track down and arrest plenty of criminals, many of them being Wolfsboon users (that is her specialty, after all). She’s gotten scraped up a few times, but the worst injury she ever sustained was from a wolf attack during her high school years. She was defenseless, and the incident left her with some pretty noticeable scars on her left arm. (Eden was the lucky one though – Danny was also attacked that same night and lost a leg.)

What names or nicknames have they been called throughout their life?

She’s been called “E” by a few people, but not very often. Other than that, Eden doesn’t have any real nicknames. At least, none that anyone has called her to her face.

What makes their heart feel alive?

Eden is highly competitive and loves the thrill of a challenge, whether it’s in a video game or in her line of work (like tracking down a criminal, etc.)

So what do you think of Eden? Do you have any questions about her or her universe? Feel free to ask! And if you also did Beautiful People this month, feel free to share a link to your post below!

Until next time!
