Here we are readers, another new year is upon us! It’s hard to believe 2017 has passed us by already, isn’t it?
Like I did last year, I’d like to start of this new year with a look back at what made it special – my favorite books that I read, the albums I listened to, the blog posts I wrote, and the moments I was able to enjoy. This is more meant to be a summary than anything else, but you can bet that I’ll be linking back to old posts if you want to read more about what I did this year.
In addition, I’m saving my 2017 Goals Review for next week, where I’ll be looking back at how last year’s goals went and what I plan to do for my goals this year. Be sure to keep an eye out for that next week!
So without further ado, here’s my Year in Review for 2017!

Favorite Moments & Memories
I did a lot of fun and crazy things this year, but here are a few of the most memorable moments from 2017.
Getting new glasses (January)
I know it may not sound like much, but I was really excited to get my new glasses this year. I’d had my old ones for a long time, and I like these so much better.
Winning the Superbowl (February)
Obviously I didn’t personally win the Superbowl, but it was amazing to see my favorite team, the New England Patriots, come back from behind and win against the Atlanta Falcons. Definitely one of my favorite moments from the year.
Seeing Memphis May Fire in concert (March)
My brother and I saw MMF on their “March of Madness” tour, and it was amazing! It was my first time seeing them live, and I loved every second of it.
Spending Easter with my family (April)
My immediate family got to be together for Easter, which was really a blessing. It was also one of the last times all ten of us were together, which makes it an especially treasured memory.
Working with Christian Endeavor for the summer (July)
My summer job was certainly an adventure, from traveling to hiking to hanging out at the beach. I also got to meet a lot of really great people, both on staff and among the churches that came.
Going to my first Comic-Con (September)
I attended a small comic-con with my friend Kiara in September, and we had a really good time visiting the different vendors, seeing all of the cosplayers, and just hanging out.
Participating in the AFSP Walk (October)
My mom and I were walkers in the annual American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Out of the Darkness walk in October, and it was really amazing. A more somber memory for sure, but still an important one
Winning NaNoWriMo 2017 (November)
I participated in NaNoWriMo for the first time this year, and I won! In fairness, there aren’t really any prizes for winning, but hey, at least I get to brag a little.
Making the gingerbread house (November)
Every year, my mom and I build a gingerbread house for a local competition, and this year was no different. We even tried a few new things this year, and I love the way it turned out.
Breath of the Wild winning Game of the Year (December)
The Game Awards is a bit like the Oscars for gaming, except that it takes place towards the end of every year. This year, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild took home to award for Game of the Year, making it the first Nintendo and first Zelda game to do so. Considering BotW was likely one of the last games the late Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata was involved in, that made the win extra special.
Sometimes, when we look back on a year, it’s easy to be pessimistic and discouraged, and I think that holds true for 2017 for many of us. Looking back, however, there are plenty of awesome and memorable things that happened in 2017 too. We just need to take some time to remember them.
