3rd Blogiversary Celebration + Giveaway

There are two things in life you’re not supposed to forget:

  1. Birthdays
  2. Anniversaries

Unfortunately for me, I managed to forget both at once.

Fortunately, my blog isn’t sentient (not yet, at least), which means it doesn’t have feelings and therefore can’t be offended that I forgot it turns THREE YEARS OLD today.

But that being said, I still want to celebrate, since three years blogging is definitely nothing to sneeze at. Since this is super last minute (thanks, final exams), I’ll keep it short, but stay tuned for the giveaway at the end!

When The Words Won’t Come

Anyone who’s ever written anything has probably sat down in front of their computer or notebook, all set to write, when they suddenly realize there’s a big problem – they’ve got nothing. All the ideas decided to flee the country as soon as they saw that blank page.

The typical solution is to just start writing anyway, even if it’s slow and painful at first. Even if you have to force the words out of your brain and onto the page, before you know it, writer’s block is a thing of the past.

At least, that’s usually what happens. But when writer’s block comes back day after day and the thought of sitting down to create something makes you feel hollow instead of joyful, it might be time to consider a different approach.

Facebook Pages & Domain Names (Blog Update)

Hello readers!

Just a quick blogkeeping announcement to point out some new and exciting things that are happening around Maggie’s Musings. I’m excited to tell you about them!

First of all, you may have noticed that Maggie’s Musings now has its own domain name and URL! The blog is now located at www.mmusingsblog.com, although using the www.mmusingsblog.wordpress.com address will still redirect you to the homepage. You may also see that ads have disappeared from my website, a change I am very happy about.

Second, I’ve recently updated my “About Me” page with new photos and a bio that reflects me and my blog better.

Third, I’ve also updated my “Writing” page (again), with new subpages for my three major writing projects at the moment. The main writing page now has a list of other places where my writing has been published, with links where possible. I hope to see this list grow in the future!

Finally, I’ve launched a public Facebook page for myself and my writing. Right now, it’s a home for my blog posts to be shared, but I also hope to use it to make writing announcements, share some of the awesome blog posts I find online, and connect with my readers. Please give it a “Like” if you want to stay updated!

As always, thanks for reading my blog and always offering such thoughtful comments and feedback! It’s been such a joy to see this blog grow, and I’m excited about all of these new changes that are taking place. I hope you love them just as much as I do!

– Maggie

Week In Review – June 1

Happy Friday, everyone, and welcome to June!

I hope you’re all doing well and have had a great week! Aside from some rather nasty seasonal allergies, I’m doing pretty well myself. I had a three-day weekend because of Memorial Day, so it was nice to have an extra break from work.

Speaking of Monday, this week I blogged about acronyms in video games and tried to explain a few of the most common ones. If it ever seems like gamers are speaking a completely foreign language, perhaps this guide will help you out a little.

Before I get into the WIR for this week, I did want to make a quick blog announcement – for June – August, I’ve decided to put a pause on WIR posts. This is partly just to give myself a break so I can focus more on doing other things with my blog, but I also want to use this time to experiment with my “personal updates” format.

For the summer, I’ll be doing monthly updates instead of weekly ones, and they’ll be going out on the first Friday after the end of the month (so for example, the June in Review will be posted on the first Friday in July). At the end of the summer, I might go back to weekly posts, or I might stick with the monthly ones, but for now, let’s consider this a “trial period.”

Anyway, on to the Week in Review!

Blog Survey + Giveaway

Hello readers, and happy Wednesday!

Lately, I’ve been thinking about Maggie’s Musings and how things could be improved. Don’t worry, there aren’t any big, drastic changes on the horizon! I’ve just been giving some thought to my content, structure, and engagement around here and looking at ways that I can improve what I have already.

Since this blog is as much for you as it is for me though, I wanted to get your input! With that in mind, I’ve designed an anonymous survey for all of you wonderful readers to let me know your thoughts, ideas, and just general impressions of Maggie’s Musings. It should only take about 10-15 minutes, and so I encourage you to take some time and share your thoughts with me!

And, if that isn’t enough incentive, I’ll also be running a GIVEAWAY in conjunction with this survey. The official terms are below, but in short, you can opt-in to win a $5 Amazon.com gift card by entering your e-mail at the end of the survey. If you don’t want to enter the giveaway, you can leave that entry blank.

I really want to make Maggie’s Musings something that’s engaging for my audience, and so I’d appreciate the feedback! The survey and giveaway will be open until MAY 18, 2018, so I’ll be posting other reminders during that time as well.

Enjoy the rest of your week, everyone, and keep reading for more information about the survey and giveaway!

Giveaway Terms & Conditions

The giveaway will open on April 18, 2018, and close at 11:59pm on May 18, 2018 EDT. One (1) winner will be chosen at random to receive one (1) $5 Amazon.com Gift Card (USD). In order to enter, visitors must complete the survey and opt-in with their e-mail address at the end of the survey.

The winner will be drawn after the close of the giveaway and contacted via e-mail by May 22. Upon confirmation, the winner will be e-mailed a digital $5 gift card for Amazon.com. If the winner does not respond within 48 hours of being e-mailed, another winner will be drawn.

2nd Blogiversary Celebration

With even more (virtual) cake!

I’m sure you’re a little bit surprised to see me posting on a Thursday, but today is a very special day for my blog because today, Maggie’s Musings turns 2 years old! I can’t believe how quickly the time has gone by since I first started this blog, but I’ve loved every second of it.

So what are you waiting for? Read the rest of the post to begin the celebration!

A Rather Messy Monday

Get my reference?

As I mentioned a few posts ago, I’m back in school now, which means I’m back to juggling my classes and blogging and other things again. Don’t worry, this isn’t one of those “my blog is going on hiatus” posts, but if you’re wondering why my posts have been late recently, that’s why. I’m still getting back into my routine of blogging and planning posts, and it’s take longer to readjust than I expected.

This past weekend in particular, I had a lot of reading homework for my classes, and along with some other things that happened (nothing major, just some unexpected messiness), I didn’t have much time or energy to write a blog post for this Monday. Hopefully, as the weeks continue and I get back into my routine, my posts will appear more regularly and on time. I’m busy a lot this month, but I should be able to plan my time better as the weeks go on.

Since I don’t have a “real” blog post this week though, I thought I’d share another little surprise I’ve been working on recently. You may have already noticed, but if not, click below to read all about it!

Blogkeeping: July 2017

Hello everyone! This is just a quick announcement post, because a few things are going to be changing on the site temporarily. Let me explain.

Some of you may recall that last July (and the year before that), I went on a short-term missions trip to West Virginia with an organization known as Christian Endeavor. We spent a week there doing construction work to rebuild and refurbish houses for the community there.

2016-07-08 047 WV Day 6
The house we worked on last year, including the new railing for the steps and front porch.

The summer, I have the privilege of being one of C.E.’s staff interns, which means that starting this Friday (June 23), I’ll be heading out for staff training, then spending two weeks in West Virginia and two weeks in North Carolina. My role on the staff will be mainly to run the office at our “base” in each state, but I’ll also be filling in as needed depending on what tasks need to be completed each day.

Because of the busy schedule and the fact that I’ll be away from home for about five weeks, things are going to be different around here for a while. There won’t be any “Week In Review” posts, and I won’t be able to participate in the Beautiful People linkup for July. The good news is, I still have a post scheduled to go out on Monday each week. I won’t be able to respond to comments as regularly as I do, but I’ll try to stop in when I can and say hello.

I’ll be back home at the beginning of August, so I’ll go back into my regular blogging schedule then. If you’d like to, I’d really appreciate your prayers while I’m away, mostly for safe travels, the staffers (we will be spending five weeks together, after all), and for the groups that’ll be coming to do the work.

Thank you so much for your understanding and encouragement! I’ll be sure to tell you all about how it went when I get back. In the meantime, I hope your July is absolutely spectacular!

Introverts & Extroverts Survey & Post Series

Hello readers! Today I want to tell you about something I’m really excited about that’s coming up later this month.

I’m putting together a two-part blog post series in March about introverts and extroverts. On the internet, I see a lot of articles about introverts, everything from “What Introverts are REALLY Thinking!” to “Top 10 Gift Ideas for the Introvert in Your Life.” As Blimey Cow puts it in their video, “Extroverts Are People, Too,” there was a time in the world when being an introvert suddenly became “cool,” while being an extrovert made you the antagonist.

Let’s be real: both sides are misunderstood. As an introvert, there are a lot of things that I feel are misunderstood about me and my personality, but there are also a lot of things that I don’t understand about extroverts too. That’s why I want to put this together. I want to give introverts and extroverts a chance to explain themselves to the other side so that we can better understand each other and support each other.

But since I’m an introvert, it wouldn’t really be fair or right for just me to talk about this. Instead, I want to hear from you! I’ve created a survey using Google Forms in order to hear from introverts and extroverts alike. It’s split into two sections, one for introverts and one for extroverts. Each section has the same questions, just worded slightly differently to address each group (basically, I exchange “introvert” and “extrovert” where applicable).

I’ll be using your responses in my upcoming blog posts, and I’d love to have your thoughts and feedback! If you have a few moments today, you can fill out the survey using this link (https://goo.gl/forms/SSp2BKsmbnBfNdD93). You can also click the “read more” button below to view the survey right here on the blog!

If you have any questions about this survey, feel free to comment on this post. Thank you so much in advance for taking the time to help me out with this. I can’t wait to hear what you have to say!

Monday Morning

Hi there, wonderful readers. I wasn’t really feeling up to blogging this weekend, so I don’t have anything ready for today. One of these days, I’ll write up a backup post for days like this, but today, I just wanted to say I won’t be having my regular Monday blog post.

I thought about cranking out something within the next few hours, but I have an essay to revise before a class tomorrow morning – It’s at 900 words, and the limit is 750 – and to be honest, I feel like I’m cheating myself and you out of a good blog post when I rush through them. Plus, I’m tired. Not like, gotta-take-a-nap tired (though that would be nice) but just feeling drained today.

Good news is, I’ve been working on my contribution for the Beautiful People linkup this month, and that’s set to go out on Wednesday (once I get this last question answered…) And of course, I’ll have my usual WIR post on Friday.

Thanks for sticking around as always! I hope you have an awesome week and enjoy your Valentine’s Day (regardless of whether you have a significant other – I wrote a post about this a year ago, if you’re interested).

Finally, I’ll leave you with this song. I told you I bought Matty Mullins’ solo album a few weeks ago, and this song has become a favorite of mine. The lyrics have been very uplifting lately.
