Junior year soundtrack

Junior Year Soundtrack

Every school year, when I get to the end of the spring semester, I think, “there’s no way it could get any tougher than this,” and then somehow, it does.

That’s not meant to be a complaint – my years in college have been some of the most challenging, but also the most rewarding years of my life. Still, the rewards are easy to forget when you’re drowning in multiple 10-15 page papers and group projects while working two jobs and a maintaining some excuse for a social life. A lot of times, I find myself listening to music for encouragement, motivation, or just comfort.

As is my tradition every year, today I’m sharing a short playlist of the songs I listened to this past school year that encouraged and inspired me. As is NOT tradition, this post comes halfway through the summer. Even though it’s been a few months since the semester wrapped up, I still think this is worth sharing (and I’ll never let myself live it down if I let this school year go by without a playlist.

Songs for Sad Days

Let’s talk about being sad.

No one wants to be sad, but sometimes, life is too much. There are days when it feels like we’re carrying an elephant on our backs, or it’s sitting on our chest, keeping us from getting out of bed. This happens to some of us more often than others, but I’m sure all of us can think of a time when we felt weighed down by life.

Not long ago, I found myself “stuck” in one of these periods, when I felt like what I described above. There were a number of things that helped me push through, but I relied on my music a lot. Music in general has always been a comfort to me, but there are certain songs that help me the most when I’m going through a hard time. I know we all have different tastes in music, but today, I wanted to share a few of my favorite songs to listen to when times are tough.

The Ultimate Summer Setlist

Summer. A time of freedom, excitement, and adventures. No one’s telling you what to do – your time is your own. You can do anything you want!

…Well, unless you’re like me and you’re working a full-time job. In that case, you still have some responsibilities.

Even if you’re working a 9-to-5 though, there’s still something to be said about the free feeling of summer. Things are a little more laid back, maybe you take a vacation or pick up a new hobby. Summer is a time for adventures and doing things you wouldn’t normally be able to.

Of course, every summer adventure needs an awesome soundtrack. Whether you’re taking a trip to the beach or playing basketball with your friends, you’ll want some background music, something that just screams “Summer.” Well my friend, you’re in luck today, because I’ve compiled a Summer Setlist, just for you!

5ish Christmas Covers

Around this time last year, I posted about my favorite original Christmas songs. It actually went out on Christmas day, since that was when I was still posting on Fridays, of course.

As a lover of Christmas music, I couldn’t resist the urge to do that again, except this year, I’ll be sharing a few of my favorite Christmas covers. These are songs that you’re probably familiar with in one way or another, though these covers might be a little different than what you’re used to. You’ve probably noticed that I love a variety of music, including what you might call “headbanger music.” I know this isn’t everyone’s favorite, so I’ll do my best to denote the genres with the song!

Best of April

Hey everyone! Apologies for the somewhat late post – May snuck up on me faster than I thought.

Merry Christmas!

It feels kind of odd to be wishing you a Merry Christmas in my first “real” blog post, but I would be remiss not to do so. So, Merry Christmas everybody! I hope all of you are enjoying this wonderful holiday and are spending it with your family, friends, and the other special people in your life.

For this week’s post, I put together a short list of some of my favorite Christmas songs. Since I have so many, I decided to narrow it down by limiting myself to only original songs. So, even though they’re some of my favorites, you won’t see House of Heroes’ “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” or August Burns Red’s “Carol of the Bells” on this list. Perhaps someday I’ll make a list with those songs, but for today, I wanted to share some Christmas music you may not have heard before.
