What would you tell yourself if you could go back in time? How far back would you go? Personally, there are a lot of things I would do, including going back about four years and telling myself not to create a music playlist for my first year of college.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed throwing together my annual playlists to summarize each year of my college experience. But it’s hard.
First of all, I have the memory of a goldfish and can hardly remember what I did yesterday, let alone what music I listened to several months ago. Second, I usually get about five songs in before I start struggling. There are always a few that jump out at me, but the second half takes some extra thought.
In spite of those challenges, I felt it would be wrong not to finish out this tradition with one last playlist. So without further ado, I present the soundtrack for my senior year.
Also, this week in Musings history, I shared my Top 5 Male Singers as the first part in a two-part series. Even though my music taste has changed a little since then and I’d perhaps change this list a little if I were to update it, I still really like all of these musicians and I still think they’re incredible.
Another month, another Best Of! I hope all of you awesome readers had a great August and enjoyed these last few weeks of summer. I’ve been pretty busy myself, but I still had time for some cool stuff, which I’ll talk about later. For now, let’s get right into it!
In case you missed it, here’s what I blogged about this month!
It’s no secret that I love music. I mention it almost every time I write one of my “Best Of” posts, and in the past I even did a short post series on my favorite music videos.
Now, I know there are a lot of elements that go into making an amazing song. But speaking as someone who doesn’t know the first thing about music theory, or even the difference between a violin and a viola (other than that a viola burns longer), the first thing I usually notice about a song is the vocals. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good guitar solo just as much as the next person, but there’s just something about vocals that I love.
With that in mind, this type of post was pretty much inevitable. I love many singers, but there are some that are just fantastic. After much thought, I’ve finally come up with a list of my favorite vocalists. To be fair, I’ve come up with two lists: Top 5 Male Singers and Top 5 Female Singers. Also, I am including musicians who are not necessarily lead vocalists, but have performed lead vocals at least once. In other words, their primary instrument could be guitar or drums, but they’ve provided additional lead vocals on one or more songs.
Anyway, this week, I’ll be focusing on the guys, and next week will be about the ladies. So without further ago, click on the read the list!
